Greene County Health System Staff

Beverly Averette, Chief Financial Officer

Beverly Averette has dual roles at Greene County Hospital. She is the Financial Manager and the Chief Human Resources Officer. She began her career working in these areas immediately out of High School. Her experience at other facilities prepared her for her managerial roles at Greene County. In her Financial Manager role, she is responsible for fiscal monitoring and all day to day financial matters. Her Human Resources role has her interacting with employees and assisting new employees as they begin their careers with the organization.


Outside of he long workdays, she loves to spend time with her family. Her grandson, Ben affectionately showers his “Bev-Bev” with hugs and kisses at every opportunity.

LaKisha Gill, BSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer

 LaKisha Gill is the Chief Nursing Officer at the Greene County Hospital. She is a seasoned Registered Nurse and native of Greene County. Her career began more than 20 years ago as a medical assistant. Her passion to help others, allowed her to advance her career and continue her education. She quickly worked her way from Medical Assistant, License Practical Nurse, to Registered Nurse. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Jacksonville State University.

She has worked at Greene County Hospital for 13 years. A portion of those yeas she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse, and advanced to hold the positions of Quality and Infection Control/Risk Management Nurse as well as the Director of Nursing for the Medical Surgical Unit & The Emergency Department. Healthcare is her passion and bringing quality healthcare to the community remains her greatest passion.

Her daily job consists of assuring that the patient care areas are safe, appropriately staffed and that all departments are interfaced with nursing services to promote positive outcomes and healthcare compliance.

LaKisha has a heart of gold and fierce enthusiasm. Her personal hobbies include spending time with family, attending sports events for my children and lastly, shopping. 

Dena Pearson, M.S., CCC-SLP

Our team at Green County Health System is made up of experienced and compassionate healthcare professionals who are dedicated to providing the best care possible to our patients. From our doctors to our support staff, we work together to ensure that our patients receive the highest quality care.

Christopher Armstead, Chief Tech Officer

 Christopher “Chris” Armstead is presently the Plant Operations as well as the Information Technology (IT) Director. His work career started with Job Corp as an electrical apprentice. He used these skills to perform work for several electrical companies. He expanded his work experience to include traveling as an underground tunneling operative. Using these experiences and others throughout his career, he decided to work closer to home. He has worked at Greene County Health System for eight years. As Greene County has continued to expand, he added IT to his duties and responsibilities. As IT Director, he has worked with a Microsoft Consultant to completely rebuild the organization’s IT network. When he is not working on computers and the network, he manages to have some down time. He loves spending time with his wife and kids while watching a good movie. When weather permits, he is outside customizing his truck.

Andrea Woods, Marketing Coordinator

 Andrea Woods is the Greene County Health System’s Marketing Coordinator. This is a new position that was created in 2019 to promote the organization. Andrea has an Associate Degree in Business Administration and a certificate in Database Management. She has held different positions during her thirteen years at Greene County and presently is Project Coordinator for some of the major technological projects. Day today, she acts as a liaison between Greene County and all community groups and agencies. She assists in implementation of facility marketing plan utilizing a variety of marketing techniques. Andrea has two daughters. RaKiyah is a member of the United States Air Force Reserve and the mother of both of Andrea’s grandchildren who is her pride and joy. Shatorius is a graduate of The University of Alabama and has her own business. Andrea loves spending time with her family, traveling, cooking, and shopping. 

April Wilson, EVS Manager

 April Wilson is presently the Environmental Services (EVS) Manager. Following high school, she decided to enter the workforce and her career started at Greene County Hospital where she has been for nine years. Her excellence in services warranted her a promotion as manager f our years ago. Her dedication to the day to day operations of EVS ensures a consistently high level of cleanliness and aesthetics of the facility and provides a safe, germ-free environment for patients, visitors, and staff. She manages a vital part of the health care team in the hospital.

When not working, April enjoys curling up in front of the television and watching a good suspense movie for a relaxing time with family.  

Valerie Rancher, Dietary Manager

  Valerie Rancher is presently the Nutritional Services Department Manager. She is a lifelong county resident who originally joined the Greene County Health System family in 2013 as an assistant cook. Her persistence and dedication allowed her to move from this position to her present manager’s position. She is currently pursuing her certification as a CDM (Certified Dietary Manager) from the University of North Dakota (online). Her daily duties range from patient nutritional services oversight to assisting the Nutritionist in assuring tasty, wholesome, and nourishing meals for all.

She has two children and three grandchildren. When her days are not filled with Greene County foodservice needs, she has an opportunity to relax in front of the television with her family and watch crime and suspense shows along with HGTV. 

Hayley Odom, Diagnostic Imaging Manager

 

Hayley attended the University of Alabama and DCH School of Radiology in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  She has over 17 years of experience at GCH and over 6 years of management experience. While a part of the GCH family, Hayley became certified nationally by the ARRT in Radiology and became the PACS Coordinator in 2007.  A few years later she continued developing her education and became ARRT certified in Computed Tomography in 2012, and in 2014 she became certified in Mammography.  Hayley is BCLS Certified. 

At GCH, Hayley works one on one every day taking care of the patients to ensure outstanding patient care. Hayley knows the Radiology Department is vital to the success of GCH and its patients, because without imaging the doctors are unable to diagnose and provide accurate treatment. 

Away from GCH, Hayley is a busy mom to 3 children that are involved in sports, active on the board at her church, Vice President of PTA at her children’s school, and is a traveler enthusiast. 

Vernita Willis, laboratory Manager, BSN, RN

 Vernita L. Willis is the Laboratory Manager at Greene County Hospital. She has been working at Greene County Hospital for seven years. She received an Associate Degree of Arts in 1997 from East MS Community College and received her Medical Laboratory Technician Degree in 1999 from Meridian Community College. She also has a degree as a Registered Nurse that she received from the University of West Alabama in 2007 with a bachelor's degree of Nursing that she received from the Mississippi University for Women in 2012.

Her job duties as a Lab Manager are vast. They consist of developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures, ensuring staff compliance, certifying instrument performance, arranging equipment replacement, and maintaining staff by recruiting and training employees. She enjoys reaching out to all departments and helping so that all the patients that receive services are provided with the highest quality care possible. Vernita enjoys what she does at Greene County Hospital and takes her job seriously.

She lives in Meridian, MS. She has been married for twenty-five years and has two boys and a grandson. Her hobbies consist of spending time with her family, visiting the elderly, and shopping.   


Shimeka Calhoun, Physicians Clinic Manager

 

Shimeka Calhoun began her tenure at Greene County Physicians Clinic in May 2024. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems (CIS) from Alabama State University in 2001, followed by a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Virginia College in 2008.

She currently holds the position of Clinic Manager at Greene County Physicians Clinic. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the non-clinical aspects of day-to-day operations. She keeps the clinic organized, monitors business functions, and provides consistent support to staff across all areas.

Shimeka previously worked at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, AL, as a Health Information Clerk for nine years, from 2005 to 2013. She continued her career in healthcare services at L.S. Riggins Associates in Birmingham, where she served as a Receptionist from 2013 to 2015. She later joined the ARC of Fayette, Lamar, and Marengo Counties as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), gaining valuable experience in direct patient care.

Throughout her career in healthcare and business administration, Shimeka has held various roles, including that of a Retail Sales Representative for a major U.S. wireless carrier. Her diverse experience makes her a well-rounded professional who has worked with patients in numerous capacities, consistently providing love, care, and support.

Outside of her professional life, Shimeka is the proud mother of one daughter, Janiya Calhoun, a student at Demopolis High School. She is an avid soccer and Girl Scout mom. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, watching football while cheering “Roll Tide,” shopping, and watching movies with her daughter and family.
